Bakelite (phenolic resin) injection molding has its own unique process characteristics that differ significantly from ordinary thermoplastic injection molding. Proper machine adjustment is the key to ensuring product quality and production efficiency.

1. Temperature Control

Unlike thermoplastics that require cooling, Bakelite molds need to be heated (typically 150-200C) to trigger the thermosetting crosslinking reaction. The barrel temperature must be carefully controlled to keep the material flowable without premature curing.

2. Injection Parameters

Injection pressure and speed need to be optimized based on the specific Bakelite grade and part geometry. Generally, higher injection pressures are required compared to thermoplastics due to the material higher viscosity.

3. Curing Time

The curing time in the mold directly affects productivity. It depends on the part wall thickness, mold temperature, and material formulation. Optimizing curing time is essential for maximizing production efficiency while maintaining quality.
