1. Material Nature: Bakelite (phenolic resin) is a thermoset plastic that undergoes an irreversible chemical crosslinking reaction during molding, while ordinary plastics are thermoplastics that can be remelted.
2. Mold Temperature: Bakelite injection molds need to be heated (typically 150-200C) to cure the material, while ordinary plastic molds need to be cooled to solidify the melt.
3. Runner System: Bakelite injection uses a hot runner or insulated runner system since the material cures in the mold, while cold runners with regrind are common for thermoplastics.
4. Wear Resistance: Bakelite materials are abrasive, so molds require higher hardness and wear-resistant coatings.
